Beeston Ceilidh Night @The Boat & Horses
Details
Venue- Boat & Horses, 137 Trent Rd, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1LP.
The venue has lots of free parking but does get busy. It is about a 20-minute walk from Beeston town centre.
Cost- đž While you can book tickets in advance, you can also just rock up, ÂŁ5 at the door. So no actual need to book in advance but some folk prefer to skip the queueđ. You can pay by cash or cardđat the door and kids can come and dance for free.
Doors open at 7.45 pm with the dancing starting at about 8ishđ
If you have said, you are coming and canât make it- donât stressđ©just let any folks expecting to see you know so they donât worry that something has happened to you. Likewise, if you decide to come at the last minuteđ- thatâs fine, rock up.
Have they never been to a ceilidh (pronounced Kay-Lea btw) before?
The truth is, it doesnât matter how many of them youâve done before, or if youâve done none at all.
The person calling the dances (me Schuggieđ) tells everyone what they need to do, and keeps it going. Everyone dances with everyone, whether you know each other or not.
The more people the better!
Everyone gets a go. No one has the chance to bust different moves, and because no one *really* knows whatâs going onđ€Ł itâs very difficult to feel self-conscious.
Essentially, most people are just guessing what theyâre supposed to be doing, and that makes it brilliant.
There are lots of friendly folks to give you a hand and get everyone up dancing. We call these folks, Ceilidh Ninjas.
Our ceilidhs are fun, social and inclusiveđ. You will however need to bring along a sense of humour as half the fun of ceilidh dances is making mistakesđ. You donât have to be a member of the Nottingham Ceilidh Club to come and join in the craic.
We usually dance to recorded music (very retroâš) with all the dances being called however, we might well đ€ have a band along â which will mean dancing to live music at no extra chargeđ¶.
Ceilidhs are enjoyed by all ages â from youngsters' first Scottish dancing experience to old-timers out enjoying a burl. People come dressed in jeans, full highland dress â and everything in between.
Wear something comfortable to dance in.
đčOur ceilidhs will be recorded to improve both the dancer's experience i.e. how I call the dances and to advertise future ceilidhs.
If you don't want to be included in any of these promotional videos, please let me know on the night.
Lastly, please don't take your own alcohol into the pubđ» Buy your drinks from the bar and don't forget the Boat & Horses now have a new landlord- so the water is free.
Any questions regarding the night- pop them in the comments/discussions below or message me.
For MeetUps some users are having meetups showing them as unpaid on certain events (not just ceilidhs). This is some sort of MeetUp glitch and is not in any way linked to your Ceilidh tickets or attendance. So you can ignore this notification. As Meetup is a third-party site it is not straightforward to see what is causing this. This FB Link shows other groups having similar issues as far back as Aug 2021. So it's not something thatâs going to be fixed any time soon- if ever! https://www.facebook.com/groups/broughtoncycling/posts/5021934784504669
