Join us on a thrilling backpacking adventure to Shenandoah Mountain, nestled within the Ramsey Draft Wilderness in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest. This rugged hike offers stunning views, challenging terrain, and a chance to experience the true beauty of the outdoors.

What to Expect:

  • Multiple Day Hike: Prepare for a multi-day trek with daily mileage of 9+ miles.
  • Stream Crossings: Be ready to cross numerous streams and creeks.
  • Changing Weather: Pack for chilly evenings and early mornings.
  • Cozy Campsite: Enjoy a secluded campsite with nearby water.

Optional Breakfast and/or Carpool:

  • Optional Breakfast: 7:00am, Strasburg Diner
  • Carpool: 7:45am, Fairfield Inn Parking lot, Strasburg, enter parking lot, bear right, and park near the back. It is well lit.

Trip Details:

  • Trailhead Parking lot: 38.30804, -79.36119
  • Ramsey Draft Parking, drive up the service road past the day use area.
  • Please work out carpools in the discussion area.

  • Hiking Difficulty: Difficult, suitable for experienced hikers.
  • Mileage: 18.2 miles (9.5 miles/8.7 miles)
  • Elevation Gain: 2,811 feet, most on the 1st day

Trip Essentials:

  • Backpacking Gear: Bring a comfortable backpack, sleeping bag, tent, and cooking essentials.
  • Clothing: Pack warm layers, rain gear (just in case!), and hiking shoes that can get wet. Don't forget dry comfy clothes to sleep in and a change of socks.
  • Food: Bring enough food for the entire trip, including snacks and meals. Feel free to bring some tasty snacks to share by the campfire.
  • Water: Bring enough water for the hike. There is a spring near the campsite.
  • Car Clothes for ride home: Don't forget a bag to put your hiking shoes in and a change of clothes for the drive home. Plus deodorant :-). We will stop for lunch on our drive home.
  • Money: For the drivers' gas.
