The Hike:
- Scenic 11.6 mile out and back hike on the AT from Compton Gap to N. Marshall Mountain.
- Elevation gain around 2,400 feet
We will start at Compton Gap and ascend to Compton Peak, taking a side trail to see the views; then continue on the AT with some ups and downs to a scenic spot on the rocks of North Marshall Mountain for lunch. After lunch, we will return by the same route with an optional stop to see the Basalt Rocks on the other side of the AT from Compton Peak. Brownies after!
Hiking Pace: 2.5-3.0 miles per hour (moving pace)
Bring: The usual - 2.0 liters of water, hiking boots/shoes, snacks, lunch, bug spray and a smile!
Dogs: Allowed but per SNP rules, must be on a leash. Please let the hike leader know if you are bringing a dog.
Park Entrance Fee (enter at North Entrance, Front Royal):
$30 for the day, $55 for the year, $0 with NPS Annual or Lifetime Senior Pass.
Hikers are encouraged to carpool: parking is limited at the trailhead.

Suggested carpool fee is $6 per person. The hike leader will be at the carpool location.
Neither the Club nor the hike leaders are responsible for coordinating transportation to/from the trailhead. Hikers are not guaranteed to get a ride to the trailhead from the carpool location. Carpooling is organized by the participants and they participate at their own risk.
Hike Rating A - You must be experienced in hikes of comparable distance, pace and elevation gain to participate.
