Colder weather is beginning to hit and and it is time for the Annual Freeze-Out Campout.

This year, we will venture back to Petit Jean State Park. Petit Jean offers a range of lodging options (tent sites, yurts, RV and camper sites, and Mather Lodge). As of right now, water is on at all campsites and the restaurant in Mather Lodge is open from 8 am to 6pm.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will not be formally organizing a caravan Friday evening.

This event is a camp-out designed to test your gear and your winter-hardiness but for those who are less than enthused about camping in the chilly temps, you may bring your RV / Trailer or opt to stay in a yurt or cabin. Attendees are responsible for making their own camping spot reservations directly with Petit Kean State Park. Be forewarned, if the weather turns really bad, you may have one or two couch crashers if you opt for a cabin. I’m sure you’ll be treated to a nice warm beverage or two in return...

Camping sites will accommodate two tents per site and up to eight people or one RV / trailer and one tent. Of course, cabins are of differing configurations. You are encouraged to reserve your site ASAP as State Parks have been extremely popular of late.

We are going to try to congregate our group in sites 36 thru 60. Both 30 and 50 AMP service is available at those sites. Additionally, they are the closest to the Yurts and the Lodge - should anybody choose those accommodations. When you reserve online, be sure to read the fine print. There may be a two-night minimum.

I will be setting up camp on Friday and plan to stay through Sunday. Don't feel like camping? Come join us for the day on Saturday. We will leave for our hike promptly at 9:30am from the Visitor Center. Come prepared for fun in the frigid air and a super fantastic time with fellow hikers, campers, and like-minded outdoor enthusiasts. As always, hikers, campers, and would-be ice people assume any and all risks and park fees for this event. Please check weather reports for potential severe weather before heading out and check the Meetup site often for updates.
