About NYC Creatives on FI(RE):
in today's digital age, genuine community spaces for meaning-making are becoming increasingly rare. our mission is to create a vibrant and trustful "fourth space" for like-minded fi(re) (financial independence/retire early) creatives who share our values and aspirations. creatives on fi(re) was created in recognition of the gap between classic fi(re) values—freedom, alternative-living, pursuing curiosities and passions—and the growing fi(re) cohort of traditional high earners focused exclusively on maximizing saving and investment of surplus income. so creatives on fi(re) was born. we recognize that fi(re) isn't just about numbers and spreadsheets—it's about crafting a life of purpose, fulfillment, and financial stability is a means to that end. our community serves as a brain-trust, where creatives and alternative thinkers can discuss and take inspiration from unconventional paths to financial independence.
More about us:
- we pursue fi(re) in pursuit of a greater goal; actively designing our path from the start. to us, fi(re) is a journey driven by purpose.
- we believe fire exists on a spectrum: as such, we focus less on numbers and spreadsheets and more on bigger picture life-building.
- we're scrappy and tend to start out leanfi/coastfi but recognize that there are many pathways to fatfi once you reach those initial starter levels.
- we invest in index funds and we also invest in ourselves and our businesses.
- we're non-judgmental. we don't care what your fire number is. we accept and respect you if you're leanfi, fatfi, coastfi, flamingofi, baristafi and everything in between.
- freedom matters to us more than safety. we're less focused on "retiring" and more focused on building a life we want to "retire" to.
- as such, our definition of "retired" is very lax. we prefer "relax early" to "retire early." we understand that work can be quite meaningful and fulfilling and we're not into poopooing your hustle.
- we lean towards "retire from your day job" and building a life where you profit from your art, app, small business etc.
- we understand that we only live once.
About You:
you have high agency and a clear vision for the life you want, without needing anyone else to define it for you. as a creative individual, you might freelance or juggle a few side gigs. you're a FIRE enthusiast, well-versed with r/financialindependence, Mr. Money Mustache, and ChooseFI. you believe in yourself almost to the point of delusion. you're self-driven, motivated by self-fulfillment and discovery, not by status. as a freedom lover, you value the ability to pursue your curiosities. you could be an entrepreneur, small business owner, bartender, artist, freelancer, delivery driver, gig worker, photographer, coder, digital nomad, immigrant, or expat.
