See all- Annual NYCP Holiday PhotowalkCVS, New York, NY
Let's end 2024 with our Annual Holiday Photowalk, and capture the beautiful window Christmas displays.
Weather permitting, we will meet at CVS on the corner of 34th Street and 5th Avenue at 7pm. Closest subway station is Herald Square (B,D,F,M,N,Q,R,W). Mass transit is highly recommended. However, if you are planning to drive in, be advised that parking will be difficult to find close by.
We will start with Herald Square for Macy's, then head to the Winter Village at Bryant Park (42nd Street & 6th Avenue), back to 5th Avenue to continue uptown for more department store displays, passing the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center up to 59th Street, then up to Bloomingdales at 59th & Lexington Avenue, and the last stop is Beacon Court (by the Bloomberg Tower; East 58th Street between Lex & 3rd Avenues).
- I'm sure you all know these areas are very crowded. We will do our best to post drop pins or leave a comment on when & where we can re-group.
- WARNING: Please make sure you are property dressed for the walk. The weather will most likely be very, very cold!
- Restrooms are at Macy's at Herald Square, or Old Navy on West 34th Street. Along the way we can stop at an open Starbucks or other shops for coffee, tea or hot chocolate (hopefully they're open).
- Night photography and long exposures are always better with tripods. However, the city is filled with tourists and high security. If you have a small but strong, table-top tripod or bendable tripod to wrap around objects, those would be really great alternatives. Here's a link to a few that are similar to what I have and love: Joby Gorillapod
- Bring a snack and some water just in case.
- Please be on time! The NYC Subway System is a hellscape of unimaginable delays that will wreak havoc on your schedule, mind, body, and soul. Plan your trip with some extra time!
- Check the myMTA app for service changes before you leave for the event:
- Apple: myMTA for iOS
- Google Play: myMTA for Android
Details of this event may be added or changed at any time, so please check in periodically on this page. Cellular phone numbers are private and will not be provided. If you have questions, please leave them in the comments below BEFORE the meetup starts. Do not send private messages.

Side Note: If you are interested in photographing the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree (and maybe Radio City Music Hall)at a time when it's much less crowded, you'll have to be there early in the morning. The Tree will be lit on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 7PM. It will be lit daily from 5 AM–midnight, and will be lit for 24 hours on Christmas Eve. It will be on display through mid-January.
