IMPORTANT: Please read the full description of this hike AND directions to the meeting place. We do NOT meet where the other Turtle Rock hikes meet.

THE HIKE
We'll start at 6:00 a.m. SHARP! and be back by 7:30. The hike is mostly trail with some sidewalks; about 5-6 miles and 1200-1400 ft. gain. Again, pace will be very, VERY FAST (3.5 to 4 mph+) with 2 or 3 very short stops -- ALL WALKING, NO RUNNING. THIS IS A VERY STRENUOUS WORKOUT! Bring water, check the weather and layer if you need to. RAIN CANCELS.

SPEED GAUGE
(my personal interpretation) Slow: 2 mph; Medium: 3 mph; Fast: 4 mph. Go to the track at a local school. If you can walk around the 1/4 mile track once in 4 minutes, you can hike fast. Make it in 5-6 minutes and you're a medium. If it takes you 7 minutes or more, consider yourself a slow hiker (if 12 minutes or more, check to see if you have a pulse). There's nothing wrong with any of these. It just means you should sign up for a hike you'll be comfortable with.

DIRECTIONS
NOTE: Even with these explicit directions people have gotten lost. From the 405 exit Jeffrey and head south (Jeffrey will become University). Turn left at Ridgeline Drive, then left at Turtle Rock Drive. Follow it around to the stop sign at Sunnyhill. Continue STRAIGHT for a few hundred feet and turn left into the parking lot on Turtle Rock Drive (we do NOT meet at the park's other lot in the back by the tennis courts). If you're coming from the south: go east on Bonita Canyon, then turn right on Shady Canyon, left on Sunnyhill, left on Turtle Rock Dr., then left into the parking lot.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1. Select hikes/events at your ability level or below
2. Bring extra water/electrolytes and hydrate before and during the hike
3. Bring extra high-energy snacks
4. Bring more than one bottle of WATER
5. Bring charged cell phone, personal first aid kit, flashlight, and whistle
6. Wear shoes with traction - Trails can be steep and/or rocky
7. Wear and bring hat, sunscreen and appropriate attire/gear based on terrain and weather conditions
8. NO HIKER LEFT BEHIND BUDDY SYSTEM - Select another hiker as a buddy and check-in with each other on the trail. Report any problems to Hike Organizer or Sweep. Do not leave a fellow hiker alone or unaccompanied on the trail.

Participants are solely responsible for their regular and emergency meds, including, importantly for food, plant and sting allergies, whether or not they have a history of such allergies.
