Geminids Meteor Shower 🧭 Near Jean Mountains
2024 Geminid meteor shower: All you need to know
An asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon is responsible for the Geminid meteor shower. Radiant rises in mid-evening, highest around 2 a.m.

Rated: Easy 1-2

Route: From Shell we will drive south and make our way to Liteweight Road where we will air down.
We will drive further down the pavement for about 2mins and we will hit dirt.
Its going to be dark already so drive on dirt will be slow so we dont create dust clouds for others at the back while rolling.
We will drive through the gun range and make a turn towards the mountain.
Once we get up top, we will have a view of the Jean Dry Lake Bed below.
I got 3 areas where we can setup (depends if its occupied or not).
You are not required to stay with us until morning where the highest of the meteor showers are showing.
Please let us know first before leaving or ask us if you need guidance going back out.
We would love to make sure everyone gets out safely, specially at a night event.

Minimum Requirements:
• Any OFFRO4D capable vehicle with clearance
• Good working spare tire
• Food, snacks and lots of drinks
• Knowledge of managing your tire pressure
• Communication Radios are encouraged
• Lanterns / flashlights or any source of light
• Chairs, tables and binoculars
• Warm clothing and source of heat
• A really good Camera 📷📹🎥🤳

Note: This is not a sleep overnight camping, this is to view the show.
(December 13th at 9pm to December 14th at 2am)
As requested, location is to be near in town (up the Jean Mountains).
It's going to be cold please dress appropriately, winter is here!
For source of heat please only bring propane, no wood fire at all.

There's another 21 miles (45mins) of pavement drive on Gold Butte Road.

This is a 2 hour drive form Las Vegas plus the Gold Butte Road drive of 45mins, please plan your travel times accordingly.

Minimum Requirements:
• Any OFFRO4D vehicle with clearance is prepared
• Food, snacks and lots of drinks
• Good working spare tire
• Knowledge of managing your tire pressure
• Communication Radios are encouraged
• Winter clothes, jackets etc..
• Offline Maps (there is no reception on some spots)

Trail Route: We will air down at the Whitney Pockets staging area, this is just upon hitting dirt from the pavement.
First stop is The Cistern (where we have the water dams)

From there we will take the Mud Wash Rd. west
Third stop is the Seven Keyholes (slot canyon)

This is where we can take a lunch break while people are hiking the hills.
Then we will take Mud Wash Rd. again to Whitney Pocket staging area to air up.

Notes: This can be a dusty trail have doors up and bring dust masks.
Slow steady phase; good experience for your family, kids and pets.
Due to the unpredictable weather there may be possibilities of cold temperature and winds, please dress accordingly.

Recommended:
Sun protection such as hat, long sleeve shirt and sunscreen.
Your best camera: we love seeing your pictures.
Any off-road capable vehicle (jeep rating 2 with optional obstacle for the experts).
Good working spare tire.
Food, snacks, plenty of water.
GMRS radio is encouraged but not required.
You are welcome to have guests in your vehicle and are responsible for their behavior.
