Welcome to the first ŌDH Youth Hui!

This is an opportunity for the children and young people of ŌDH to come together and be heard about issues that affect them and to contribute to making decisions that will impact the life of our community.

This event will focus on exploring our values and vision, hopes and dreams for our ŌDH group.

In a fun and interactive way, we will explore questions like:

- What kind of community do we want to create together?
- What do you love most about our ŌDH community?
- What matters most to you about being in a homeschooling community like this?
- What is working well for you? What is challenging?
- What support do you need from this community?
- How do you want to be involved and contribute?

Young people will be led through a series of interactive activities in small groups, exploring these and other questions. Each activity will be led by an adult and will be designed to engage imaginations, empathy, curiosity and creativity.

Please RSVP so that we can get enough snacks.

Schedule:

- 10:30 arrive, gather and settle
- 10:45 Youth hui opening circle
- 11-12:15 Interactive values exploration (small groups)
- 12:15 Youth Hui closing circle
- 12:30 Shared lunch
- 1:30 pm - Pick up

Who is this event for?

This event is open to any children and young people who are part of the ŌDH community. Any children who would like to take part in discussing values, ideas and are able to listen to others as they share are warmly welcome.

This is a drop off event. If your child needs you to stay close for their comfort, you are welcome to stay but we ask that adults are present as observers only, and remain respectful of the process. This event is intended to support children to find their own voices.

What to bring:

An open heart, ears to listen any hopes, dreams or amazing ideas you have for our group.

Something to share for lunch. (Peanut free please). Some snacks and drinks will be provided.

What to wear

In order to reflect the diversity of our group, and celebrate the individuality of each young person, we invite you to wear an outfit that best reflects YOU to this event. This could be your favourite outfit, a costume, your most fancy clothes, your pyjamas, a cosy jumper, a favourite hat, your silliest shirt, or simply the most comfortable thing you own. Whatever lets you feel most like you.

Where:

Te Ropu Māori, University of Otago campus, 519 Castle Street North

Note, parking at the university can be a challenge. The surrounding streets, such as Castle street, Leith St etc will hopefully be less occupied than usual as most of the students will have left for the year.

Please allow enough time to find parking!

If transport will be challenging, please let us know so we can help you to figure something out.
