What we’re about
It's clear to many that we are living through a time of tremendous socio-cultural upheaval, and many of us are trying to make sense of this and our particular place in it all. But we need a space to do this with others, and away from social media hysterics and the interwebs echo chamber.
Enter "Estuary." Estuary is about the intermingling of various ideas and perspectives for the purpose of cultivating communities which help people do “sense-making.”
Through this Meetup, we will seek to build an in person discussion group that attempts to address what's been called the "meaning crisis" of the 21st century. And we will do this in the context of a concrete community where we can know and be known from across perspectival divides.
At our in-person meetups in the Roxy Room at the back of the Royal Oak Pub at 188 Bank St in Ottawa, we will deliberately engage in meaningful conversation, but will avoid confrontational debates. We will have a chance to share our perspectives and stories, and give space for everyone to be heard. We will be given the opportunity to test and freely articulate our thoughts, in order to clarify and sharpen them for ourselves and for others. We may even share a few meals and have a few drinks together.
If you want to be part of an intentional community that is contributing to the grassroots development of better societies, come out to one of our events and see if you’d like to join us.
Please note that the Royal Oak Pub, in exchange for letting us use their Roxy Room, expects each attendee to order something from the menu. Some people order a coffee or a beer while others order a meal.
Please note that members need to update their RSVP 24 hours or more, before an event, if they find, for what ever reason, they are unable to attend. This will allow others on the wait list to attend instead. Members who are unable to attend a meeting and also neglect to update their RSVP will risk being removed from the group.
