Community Potluck - Mission Bay

Intention
A Commons is a place where the primary resource is Care. Our Local Commons is a place where the people of Mission Bay can combine our care to create an environment that nourishes the hearts and minds of those in our local environment.

The core intention for this potluck is to create a space where we can comfortably and authentically connect with the people from our local area. This environment welcomes all people of all ages. The single ask is that you treat everyone you meet here with deep respect.

In the future, the potluck will be a monthly occurrence where we can develop other aspects of the Commons. As trust forms, we’ll look towards more offerings that strengthen the resilience and robustness of our community, like life skill workshops, basic wellness practices, and community service projects.

There will be a limit to the number of RSVPs for this first event while we refine the structure and logistics of the event. Over time this will expand to an open event.
Evening Agenda
You are welcome to arrive or leave at the start of any activity. You may just prefer to come for the potluck.

5:00pm - 6:00pm - Icebreaker game
September 28th game: Find a person who’s done X. This game involves moving around the room trying to find a person who has done each of the things on your list (e.g has run a marathon, owns a pet fish, etc.). A list and pens will be provided.

The game will change for each potluck but will involve something lighthearted that creates an opportunity for connecting with people you haven’t met before.

6:00pm - 7:00/7:30pm - Potluck
Share food and casual conversation

7:00/7:30pm - 8:30pm - Group discussion (September 28th Topic: Holiday memories)
A discussion on a specific topic with the intention of connecting with the wisdom contained in each other's stories. Younger children are welcome to sit in on this, but we’ll also have a separate game supervised by one of the adults as an alternative option.

8:30pm - Soft close

8:30pm - 9:30pm - Voluntary clean-up
Anyone who wishes to help clean up can stay.

What To Bring

1. Meal

• A meal to share (roughly 3-6 servings)
• If your serving dish is generic. Please consider putting a name tag on it.
• A piece of paper taped to the dish that identifies the following. These will be placed on a separate table.
• V = Vegetarian
• Ve = Vegan
• DF = Dairy Free
• NF = Nut free
• GF = Gluten Free

2. Utensils

• Servings utensils for your meal
• Cutlery, plate, and drink bottle for water

If you have any allergies, dietary restrictions, or other questions, please message Tom here on Meetup. There will be no alcohol at this event.

Since this is our first event, the schedule and structure are experimental. However, we’ll send out a feedback form after the event in order to improve the experience as we go.
