Earlier this year, I led a hike over the Pinnacle to the Color Bowl in Snow Canyon, then ascended over three peaks before exiting through a wash to the north--which led back to the White Rocks trail. The loop was partially completed as envisioned--the ending portion was altered to escape cold temps and 40+ mph wind gusts.

A month later, I completed the previous hike plan but reversed the direction: started by ascending the "bread dough" formations (east end of White Rocks) into broken rock to the first high point, connecting to Third Peak, traversed Second and First Peaks, then replicated the route back to the Color Bowl. This time, we will connect from the CB to the White Rocks trail for the return to our cars, not re-climb the Pinnacle. Even with a slow pace, the 4-mile distance and 1600' elevation gain understates the difficulty of this route: expect class 3 rock climbing, exposure and loose rock. This is likely to be a lot of fun--and it is too cool for rattlesnakes!

The group size is limited. Please: no new Outback hikers and no one who is unknown to me.

I will be carrying an inReach mini, minimal first aid supplies and webbing. I advise long pants and gloves along with the usual gear needed for a rough route. Carry enough warm gear to survive a night on the mountain. If the weather turns bad (read: cold, wind, rain), I will reschedule--but for now, NOAA forecasts sunny and 53 degrees.
