Winter Quarters Arch, (also known as the Donut Hole)
Tom McKee, leader Moderate, Class 2 & (and some 3 if you go through the arch), about 5-6 miles and 600 feet elevation.

This is a loop hike to the arch. Leaving the Red Mountain Trailhead (off Hwy 18 on the left side of the road) at 9:00 a.m. We will begin the hike from the parking lot and head up Juniper Trail to intersect Red Mountain Trail. We'll follow Red Mountain Trail to a spot where we'll head across country toward the arch. Expect some bushwhacking and climbing up and down loose scree. We'll intercept an established trail enroute to the arch. The arch is an unusual puffy formation that looks more like a bagel than a donut. In years past we were able to fairly easily climb up the arch, through and down the other side where we have lunch. We will return to the parking lot by proceeding across country, through one of the many canyons that run through that area. Some scrambling involved for those who go up to the arch. Weather may be a factor on this hike, overly wet, windy and/or muddy conditions will likely lead to cancellation. Contact the leader if in question. The hike is limited to 12 people.
