November 25, 2024(Monday) **Stairway to Heaven**. Tom McKee, leader, Moderate to Strenuous, mostly class 2 with some short class 3 sections. About 6-7 miles with total elevation gain of about 1000 feet. Meet at the corner of Main St. and Silver Reef Rd. in Leeds at 9:30 a.m., (or the Silver Reef Trail Head at 9:40). The hike starts at the trailhead for the Silver Reef Rim and follows an old dirt road up a steady climb for about the first mile or so. Incredible views from the ridge overlooking Silver Reef await. We follow the trail for the descent to an open valley below. We will hike across country and eventually end up at the top of the Stairway where we will have lunch before returning to the cars. Some scrambling may be involved as well as some bushwhacking. If we are all up for some exploring, we may check out part of the route for the original hike to Stairway to Heaven.
