** VERY HARD CHALLENGING HIKE....no beginners and must have hiked with me before or be vetted before attending.......Everyone will be screened before being moved off wait list.**

Ok, ok I hear YA......I am scheduling Castenea you rock scrambling junkies. This is a BRUTAL hike (but fun). Hands down one of the best rock scrambles on the East Coast!!We will be moving at a pace of about 3.2 mph on flats and little slower on hills. Boulder field at your own pace for safety reasons. There will be plenty of climbing even before we hit the boulder field. The boulder field is about 1.5 miles of straight up. Super challenging. This is a group hike in which we will support each other. Hence it is CRITICAL that your fitness level is closely matched to the attendees of the hike. Feel free to reach out to me directly with questions or concerns.

There will be a "side adventure" after we reach the top of the boulder field......if you know what it is, shhhhhh...

GEAR REQUIRED: hiking footwear is a must as there will be plenty of rocks and roots. By plenty I mean millions of rocks!
Bring plenty of water and food/snacks as we will stop to eat at some point.

WEATHER: I have done this in brutal cold temps and pouring freezing rain. Not happening again....scheduling in November this time hoping for more ideal conditions...:)

CARPOOLING: This location is about 3 hours from Conshohocken, PA. Carpooling will be highly suggested to make driving time pass quicker and to split cost of gas and tolls. There will be folks getting hotels the night before as well. Use the comment section for this if needed. DO NOT OFFER TO BE A DRIVER AND THEN BAIL. Please and thank you..

PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION: We will park in the area to the right of the Municipal Building located at 347 Nittany Rd. Lot is small, so really hoping to maximize carpooling to minimize amount of cars.

**MEET AT 6:00pm with 6:15pm SHARP departure**

Time to get down, actually UP in Manayunk. MUST LOVE STEPS AND HILLS. Or LOVE to HATE them....lol This is a little grueling, but fun and always filled with great people energy.

This is a monthly fitness oriented hike to keep up and/or build your hiking conditioning. We will conquer several steep stair cases and hills throughout the evening, including the famous Manayunk Wall. Depending on the group, there may be some "fun" surprises such as racing up a hill, pushups until the last person reaches top of stairs, etc...who knows.....:)

Please keep the following in mind:

1. this will be more on the intense side and very little stopping along the way. Not for beginners. This IS a YOU MIGHT GET DROPPED TYPE OF HIKE. However, there are several bail out spots if you are on the fence and want to get out of your comfort zone. Not all hikes offer this ability...."IF IT DOESN'T CHALLENGE YOU, IT DOESN'T CHANGE YOU"
2. pace is about 3.2-3.5 on flats and little slower on steps. We move quickly and I do my best to balance the group in terms of keeping everyone moving.
3. this hike is not about distance. About intensity and challenging yourself. Heart rates will be up. Will be some flats and downhills to bring your heart rate down in between the inclines.

We will be done hiking by 8:30 pm so plan on about 2 straight hours of working your legs and lungs. Afterwards we may head to a local food/drink establishment in Manayunk.

Gear required: Sneakers are ok for this hike. Reflective clothing is a good idea if you have it.

Parking/Meetup spot: we will meet in the Cadence Cycling parking lot located at 3740 Main St. in Manayunk. We will meet at the opposite end. Look for a big metal raiload truss with a Manayunk sign in front of it. THERE ARE NOW TOWING SIGNS THROUGHOUT THE LOT. No one has had any issues, but use your own judgement. There is free parking in street in front of lot. Also street parking on the street near the Wissahickon train station. Simply walk through tunnel and down steps to the lot.

There is also public transportation available. The septa regional rail Wissahickon train station is one staircase away from this lot.

Guest policy: All attendees must join Outdoor Adventure Friends. IT IS FREE. This is for communication purposes and to ensure all attendees know EXACTLY what they signing up for. Only exception is if a friend or family member is visiting from out of town and you take full responsibility for them.

Join us for our second annual Thanksgiving Eve night hike and social.
In an effort to provide a "midpoint" for most folks, the event will take place in Conshohocken. Note for all, especially the regular peeps, this will not be my typical fast paced weekly night hike in terms of speed, distance or style. This will be a RARE time in which I will chill out a bit. However, I have some "fun" planned along the way- like racing up 12 stories in a parking garage, walking up heart attack hill, etc....

Total mileage will be in the 5-6 mile range. BUT it will be broken up in two parts. We will meet at starting point to raise a glass or shot. Then proceed to part 1 which will take us into West Conshohocken. While in West Conshohocken, we will stop off for a beverage at a local establishment that has live music. From there we will hike part 2 and then head to Great American Pub in Conshohocken. They have a DJ spinning tunes at 10pm.

Please PLEASE partake responsibly. This is the biggest drinking night of the year. BE SAFE.......

Sneakers are totally ok for this as we will not be in the woods at all.

Guests are ok for this event, but please make sure that they have a basic fitness level. Pace will be about 3 mph (not a stroll, but you will be able to hold a conversation).
