We're heading back to Ironwood and the UP for some winter fun. The last time was 2021......and 2020....and 2019......and 2018.

With early season lake effect snow, cross country skiing is typically great near "The Big Lake They Call Gitche Gumee". Plus the area has more to do like exploring waterfalls and the Superior coast. But first things first! We all have to find a place to sleep. For this trip, everyone will reserve their own accomodations. After researching the current alternatives in Ironwood, I've reserved one standard room on the ground floor with two queen beds for up to 4 of us at the Budget Host Inn, 447 West Cloverland Drive (Highway 2), Ironwood.

Kevin and Sherri Cox, the owners of the Inn have always been good to our group, including the year they let us push our entire stay one day later at the last minute due to a snowstorm. They run a tight ship, with no rowdy tenants, no money up front to reserve a room, free cancellation up to 3 days before, well maintained large quiet rooms with a microwave and refrigerator, a well plowed big parking lot, rooms set back from the noise of the main drag and a good location for restaurants and getting to the outdoor venues we'll be going to. The place is highly rated by Hotels.com at 9 out of 10 stars. That's my sell job for the place. Just avoid talking politics with Kevin. He's not scary. He's just an Evangelical Trumpian, like many Yoopers!

I tried to work out a group rate but it got very complicated and more work for me than it was worth for you. However, Kevin confirmed he still offers a 5% discount for cash payment at check in that actually works out better for you than the group rate I was offered. It used to be on their website. It saves the Inn credit card fees and avoids delay in getting paid by the card company. "Cash" means greenbacks, not a check. If you don't want to stay at the Budget Host Inn, you can search the area for a different place that suits you, but try to stay nearby.

Mon. 1/20: Drive to Ironwood and stop to ski/explore along the way.
Tue. 1/21: Ski half a day and explore (hike/snowshoe) half a day.
Wed. 1/22: Ski half a day and explore half a day. Meet up with the Superior Showshoe Walks event?
