If you are new to my hikes before you can register you have to message or email me. Priority on my hikes will be given to those who attend my hikes or who cancel their reservation at least 24 hours ahead of time.
Hartshorne Woods offers different hiking trails with alot of climbing, this is very different from the level Pinelands.
Hartshorne Woods Park is 794 acres and it overlooks the Navesink River.It was chosen as a desirable coastal defense site for N.Y. harbor.Hartshorne Woods Park had an important role in military history during WWII. There are over 15 miles of marked trails.There are porta-potties at the Claypit Creek Area. and the Buttermilk Valley Entrance.There is a restroom at Rocky Point parking lot.
We begin on the on the Claypit Run Trail to the Laurel Ridge Trail...We then continue on the Grand Tour Trail past the water tower onto Monmouth Hills section.We reach the Rocky Point Trail and finish back tat the parking lot for restrooms and a short break. We have lunch at the Rocky Point Overlook with picnic tables and great views of Navesink River and Atlantic Ocean.After lunch we continue on the Battery Loop (paved trail) and connect to Cuesta Ridge Trail and then the Laurel Ridge Trail.. We finish back on Claypit Run Trail and go over the Locust Avenue Bridge and Claypit Creek with scenic views of the Navensink River before heading back to cars.
