Ever heard of [disc golf](https://www.pdga.com/news/what-disc-golf-guide-parents-kids)? Want to try it? Join [Outdoor Afro Houston](https://www.facebook.com/groups/OutdoorAfroHouston) as we learn to play disc golf together for the first time in 2025! [Disc golf](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_golf) is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules like golf. It is usually played on a course with 9, 12, or 18 holes. We will be visiting the 18-hole disc golf course at [Brazos River Park](https://www.sugarlandtx.gov/facilities/facility/details/Brazos-river-park-65) in Sugar Land.

**Event Cost:** The cost for this event is free. We will bring some extra disc golf equipment, but you may be interested in purchasing your own to use if you don't already have some. Costs vary, but a good "beginner" disc golf set usually costs between $15 to $30 and be purchased online or at many local sports or large box stores.

**Where We Will Meet:** We will meet at [Brazos River Park](https://www.sugarlandtx.gov/facilities/facility/details/Brazos-river-park-65) in Sugarland. Parking is free, and we will meet in the parking lot nearest to the disc golf course. Look for James in the black Outdoor Afro leader shirt!

**What We are Doing/What to Expect:** We plan to play one full round (18 holes) of disc golf. If time permits, we may play more! First, we will review the game's rules, then take some practice shots. After some brief practice, we will all take turns on this challenging course!

**Who’s Coming:** This event is open to all ages (bring your friends, family, and the kids); however, PLEASE REGISTER EVERYONE for our records.

**What Should You Wear/Bring:** Dress in breathable, lightweight, or weather-appropriate clothing. We are not expecting to be in the high brush, so shorts and T-shirts are OKAY. Please wear closed-toe shoes with good support. We will encounter different terrains (mulch, concrete, dirt, sand, etc.), so it is always important to keep your feet covered. Athletic shoes are OKAY.

Please also bring bug spray and other protective gear (FACE COVERINGS, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.) for your protection. We will be in direct sunlight at various times while walking and exploring the distinct locations. Reusable water bottles and light snacks are highly recommended. We also highly encourage those requiring more water or dehydrating easily to bring an extra water bottle, as it may get hot while we are out.
