New Canaan, Connecticut Walk

*Thanks for your patience everyone. This is a reschedule of a walk that I originally intended to do about 2 weeks ago--it will be colder but the hiking should warm us up! :)

Let’s visit New Canaan, CT, walking (about 6 miles) through Irwin Park and connecting via a GreenLink trail that will bring us to the New Canaan Nature Center and more short trails. Wear shoes suitable for hiking trails, though most paths will be paved. Returning through the town, you may wish to relax in one of the New Canaan cafes before catching the train back. Here are more details that should answer most questions:

a.) From NYC the train goes from Grand Central to Stamford, CT. We’ll transfer to the train going to New Canaan. (see screenshot of train schedule) The train will probably be across the platform, but there will be an announcement.
b.) Consider downloading the TrainTime app, which gives updated train times, and also lists the platform where your train is arriving.
c.) We arrive at 10:18am and regroup at the arrival point at the New Canaan metro north train station. Even you are driving to meet us, now you know where to meet.
d.) $5 for non-Outdoors Club members. The money goes towards supporting the Outdoors club, so I will be collecting on their behalf.
e.) Lunch: If you don’t bring lunch you can buy something at Walter Stewart’s Market, which is an upscale supermarket. We’ll actually eat lunch in Irwin Park or New Canaan nature center, depending on the time.
f.) Bathrooms: Irwin Park just has a Port-a-potty; so I recommend bringing toilet paper in case there’s none.
g.) Shoes. As mentioned, this will be a walk on both sidewalks and trails, so wear suitable shoes for both.
h.) Return times from New Canaan to GCT are: 28 min after the hour: 2:28pm/3:28pm, etc. I can’t answer ‘When will the walk finish?' If you need to leave early, just use your phone’s Google Maps feature.

Transportation: From Grand Central Station, take the 9:02 a.m. (New Haven line) train. $23 round trip, off-peak ticket. (I’ll be waiting by the Grand Central Station clock to sign up folks before we leave.) Note that we arrive at 10:18 am at the New Canaan Metro north station. *We will regroup at the New Canaan metro north train station so this is another chance to meet us.
