THE LOWER UPPER WEST SIDE: WALKING OFF THE TURKEY!
Details
Let's take a post Thanksgiving walk thru the lower Upper West Side between Lincoln Center and W. 77th Sts. At Lincoln Center we will explore the vast transformation in the early ’60's from the former San Juan Hill neighborhood to one of the world’s most important performing arts centers. Then we will focus on two nearby major monuments to the American Civil Rights Movement. After walking to the Riverside South development, we will discuss its complicated transformation from former NY Central freight railroad yards. Then we will see some wonderfully preserved parts of old vintage NYC. Finally, we will learn more about two great Upper West Side museums: the American Museum of Natural History and the New-York Historical Society. End at 77th and Central Park West. Steady precipitation cancels. $5 for those who are not dues-paying members of Outdoors Club. Leader: Leigh Hallingby. [email protected] or call/text 551-404-7514. Contact or check MeetUp to confirm.
