Outrigger Canoe Trip (OC6) from Newport Aquatic Center
Details
WE WILL BE HOLDING THIS EVENT ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH FOR THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE. IF YOU GET HOOKED, THERE ARE RECREATIONAL AND RACING OUTRIGGER GROUPS THAT LAUNCH FROM NAC MORE OFTEN. ASK ONE OF THE ORGANIZERS FOR DETAILS IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.
Have you ever paddled in a six person outrigger canoe (OC6)? Have you ever wanted to give it a try? This is your chance.
New paddlers are welcome on all of our Sunday trips.
Plan to arrive a little before 12:30 PM. If you are not already a member of NAC, you will need to fill out their release form, and they may request a drivers license. Tell them you will be paddling with the Recreational OC6 group. Meet us under the canopy by 12:30 PM to get a paddle and a little instruction, then down to the water to launch.
No charge the first time you paddle with this group, or for anyone who has rented a kayak or a SUP from NAC earlier in the day. Returning paddlers will pay $10 to the NAC for each trip. NAC also offers monthly and annual memberships which include trips in the OC6s at no extra charge.
Wear typical athletic gear that you don't mind getting wet. Bring a mask to wear when we're on the shore. Masks are optional once we're on the water paddling.
Bring bottled water, but leave valuables at home. You might not want to bring your cellphone, unless you have a water proof case. We recommend sunglasses with a leash, sunscreen, and either water shoes, or bare feet. Some folks also prefer to wear gloves, like cycling gloves, while they're paddling.
We'll be out on the water for about 2 hours and will cover 6 - 10 miles.
No pets allowed in the boats.
