We host events (lightning talks, technical workshops, paper study lunches and networking events) managed by prominent researchers, engineers, statisticians, students, where we discuss machine learning and data science with the purpose of building a community around women in these fields. 19:00 - AI, privacy, and the surveillance business model, by Meredith Whittaker, President at Signal Foundation.
This talk will look at where we are now in tech and how we got here, with a focus on AI, privacy, and how they’re connected. We’ll look at the rise of AI in the present moment, and how it is directly connected to the tech surveillance business model of today. And why, order to solve the issues we’re facing, we’ll need to unravel some of the original sins of the original internet business model and address the work undone decades ago to protect privacy.
