What we’re about
Greetings and Welcome! Thank you for stopping by to check out Paulina Peak Social Group (PPSG)!
******PLEASE DISREGARD THE 'PLEDGE DONATION' BOX ON THE HOME PAGE. IT'S PUT THERE BY MEET UP AND I DIDN'T AUTHORIZE IT NOR DO I SUPPORT IT. I HAVE ORGANIZER DUES EVERY 6 MONTHS AND THAT'S THE ONLY TIME DONATIONS ARE NEEDED!!!!!
When I began Paulina Peak Social Group in March 2020, quarantine hit the world. I had just moved to La Pine with four days to spare before lock down. I had no idea what to do with myself, so I began PPSG as a way to meet friends and maintain my longstanding sobriety (I have events where there's alcohol and it doesn't bother me if YOU drink.) I moved to Bend in December 2020 and found myself turning into a Bendite!
Did you know there's a Bend Pledge? Me either.
1. Smile, say please and thank you, give right-of-way, and simply slow down.
2. Adventure and explore in a manner that is respectful to the land, wildlife and the people you share it with.
3. Plan and prepare for your time on the trails, in the mountains and on the water.
4. Walk more, drive less, and stick to established trails, routes and parking areas.
5. We must take care of the places that take care of us; we are all visitors here.
PPSG is a small, friendly, diversified group of down-to-earth members who enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, snowshoeing, snow and water sports along with experiencing Central Oregon’s food scene and breweries. We explore Bend, Sunriver, La Pine, Sisters, Redmond, and surrounding areas.
I'm a huge stickler on UNRSVPing if you have RSVP'd to an event. No shows are rude and some events have WAITLISTS. Especially In the case of events with WAITLISTS, I will mark you a NO-SHOW and it's reflected on your profile where other Organizers can see it. Please be courteous because someone could have gone if you had UNRSVP'd.
Note, to join PPSG, members must post their real name (last names are not required) and recent facial photo of JUST themselves on their Meetup profile...PLEASE....no sunsets, doggy mug shots, yourself and someone else in the picture. It's for everyone's safety.
At this time, I prefer embers are fully vaccinated against COVID before participating in any indoor PPSG events. Because I haven't gotten COVID, my events will continue to be held outside with plenty of breathing room.
EVENTS
Hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing: All skill levels are welcome. Each event will disclose the location, skill level, distance and approximate duration, and gear and equipment required. PPSG recommends you pack the “Ten Essentials” for all hiking events: https://americanhiking.org/resources/10essentials/
Pets are only allowed when noted on the event.
Camping: All skill levels are welcome. Most camping events are multi-day events, and usually take place in May, June, and July.
Social Events: Most social events take place at food truck lots, restaurants, and breweries.
ATTENDING EVENTS
Please read the entire event description before signing up and only sign-up for events within your capabilities.
All events have an attendee limit. Attendee limits are determined by the nature of the event and the number of Event Hosts attending an event.
Events fill-up quickly. Members are encouraged to download the Meetup app to receive notifications for events as soon as they are posted.
When an event is full (reached its attendee limit), you may be assigned to the Waitlist. If spots open up, members are automatically RSVPed to the event in the order that they joined the Waitlist. Please be patient if you’re on the Waitlist. It's common for the head count to fall as an event gets closer, and most likely you will be RSVPed.
If you are unable to attend an event, please unRSVP no later than 24-hours prior to the event. This allows members on the Waitlist to be RSVPed.
If you are unable to attend an event the day of the event, please contact the Event Host as soon as possible. Otherwise, the Event Host may proceed with the event without you.
No shows will be marked as such and after three no shows you will be a “no go.”
RISKS AND WAIVER
No activity is without risk. Please read the entire event description before signing up and only sign up for events within your capabilities. PPSG members are responsible for making their own decision on acceptable risks.
PPSG event hosts are volunteers and not trained professionals. Anyone attending any posted event assumes all personal risk to themselves and releases Paulina Peak Social Group, its Organizers, Event Hosts, and its members from all liability.

Fall River Headwaters Trail, 4.4 miles **NOT the Fall River Loop!**FALL RIVER GUARD STATION (recgovnpsdata), Bend, OR
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND PLUS I WANT TO GO!
COME AND ENJOY A BEAUTIFUL HIKE AND THEN GRAB LUNCH AT THE WETLANDS TAP HOUSE IN LA PINE.The headwaters of Fall River in Oregon are located in the Deschutes National Forest, about 2 miles northwest of Pringle Falls:
The Fall River is a spring-fed tributary of the Deschutes River. The river is known for its cold, clear water and is a popular destination for fly fishing. The river is home to a variety of fish, including brook, brown, and rainbow trout, as well as whitefish.
The Fall River Trail runs along the river and offers views of the river and surrounding area. The trail is considered easy and suitable for tennis shoes. However, some recommend bringing bug spray, as mosquitoes can be present, especially near the headwaters.
The Fall River Guard Station is located at the headwaters of the river and can be rented. The cabin is rustic and cozy, with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a living room. Visitors are responsible for bringing their own bedding, towels, cleaning supplies, flashlight, and first aid kitFALL RIVER HEADWATERS TRAIL
This is a beautiful hike, very easy in the summer, but there'll be snow and some ice this time of year. However, no mosquitos! Come and enjoy the river sights which may include: a river, upright and fallen trees, a bridge, critters (flying, swimming, walking, chewing on trees), other hikers, and possibly some crazy fly fishing people actually standing in the water, brrrr. And, my favorite, seeing the headwaters of the Fall River where an entire river literally springs from the earth! So cool.Length: 4.4 mi total
Elevation gain: 120 ft
Route type: Out & back (no getting lost, we're following the river)
Time: 1.5 hours in summer, a bit more in winter to avoid doing faceplants
NOTE: We're starting at the Fall River Guard Station/Headwaters and hiking downstream/northeast.AllTrails says the best time to visit this trail is April through November. Sure, it's nice then but we're not tourists, we're intrepid Central Oregonians!
Bring a snack, water, 10 essentials, boots, yaks, pole(s), and positive energy. Also, it's going to be cold; you know what you need to wear.Parking pass is required.
