Provisional announcement of a late Autumnal excursion to the top of Great Whernside, by an unusual route, down by another interesting route. Then on to the other side of Wharfedale for different views.

This is weather forecast dependent and will be reviewed during the proceeding week (Thursday/Friday) as a cool, clear, crisp day is needed.

From the Coral at Conistone, negotiating the Dib, then along and into Mossdale, towards the shooting hut and by Mossdale Beck and up and into the wilderness by the shooting butts, over to the Triangulation Pillar, dropping down to Starbotton, via a Dike and gate, then up onto Middlemoor Pasture, to Knipe Scar and back down the valley to the coral at Conistone.

Depending on the weather, needing a good, cold, clear day to get the views around and about Wharfedale, Littondale, Nidderdale, Coverdale and Bishopdale, possibly even Waldendale and over to Wensleydale.

There's significant 'rufty tufty' on the 'rear end' way up to Great Whernside, from what I remember. It can be boggy, muddy and there are a few streams, usually, to negotiate.

This is Plan A, to be reviewed during the week leading up to the Sunday, should the forecast prove to be inclement then an alternative will be announced.

Dogs welcome, providing they are under control, can be carried over styles and cleaned up after. They should come with well behaved and considerate owners

A King's Shilling or the modern brassy coloured equivalent £1.00 walk fee is payable at the start.

Two stops for sustenance are planned along the way.

Please make sure that you are adequately prepared and suitably attired for late Autumnal/early Winter walking conditions.
