Another in my series of more challenging hikes. This one is near Carnarvon in Haliburton County. The tentative plan is to combine two interconnected trails to make a hike somewhere between 10 and 13 km in length.
First the Algonquin Highlands Ridge Trail: a pleasant shaded trail with some steep inclines (variously described as between 5 .6 and 8 km one-way). There is one major lookout point. This trail then joins the Circuit of 5 Viewpoints trail: a classic Canadian Shield country trail overlooking rugged valleys, and placid rivers (a 5 km loop).
I will finalize the route closer to the date. You'll be guaranteed to be tired after this one with numerous climbs and descents on both trails. Bring lunch, a snack, a good variety of layered clothing for the elements, and both your sense of adventure and sense of humour. Hiking poles also recommended (you know who you are!).
We'll need to plan carpooling and possibly a car shuttle to make the above route work. Look for discussion the chat closer to the date.
