Jonathan Rauch, author of Cross Purposes: Christianity’s Broken Bargain with Democracy (2025), and Julian Zelizer, author of In Defense of Partisanship (2025), join for a wide-ranging discussion on their new books and the rise of partisanship in America. Jeffrey Rosen, president and CEO of the National Constitution Center, moderates.
About the Speakers & Host:
- Jonathan Rauch is a senior fellow in the Brookings Institution's Governance Studies program and the author of eight books and a contributing writer of The Atlantic. His many publications include the 2021 book The Constitution of Knowledge: A Defense of Truth, as well as the 2015 ebook Political Realism: How Hacks, Machines, Big Money, and Back-Room Deals Can Strengthen American Democracy, and Gay Marriage: Why It Is Good for Gays, Good for Straights, and Good for America (2004).
- Julian E. Zelizer is a Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University's School of Public & International Affairs, a CNN Political Analyst, and a columnist for Foreign Policy. He is the award-winning author and editor of 26 books including, The Fierce Urgency of Now: Lyndon Johnson, Congress, and the Battle for the Great Society and Fault Lines: A History of the United States Since 1974, and Burning Down the House: Newt Gingrich, The Fall of a Speaker, and the Rise of the New Republican Party.
- Jeffrey Rosen is a Professor of Law at The George Washington University Law School, the President and CEO of the National Constitution Center, and a Contributing Editor of The Atlantic.
