What we’re about
The goal of this group is to start up a regular international folkdance in Kensington, one of Philadelphia's River Wards. I would love both old hands and newcomers to join me in getting it going! This can be an intergenerational activity.
Why international folkdance? As the Society for International Folk Dancing puts it, some key benefits of this activity are:
"[the opportunity] to learn traditional dances from many countries
the enjoyment of the dances’ varied styles and music
the pleasure of congenial company through dancing
the satisfaction of continuing age-old traditions
the benefit of sociable exercise, increased fitness and coordination."
Princeton folkdancers add, "We dance to soulful music from many ethnic groups and countries including Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, and Turkey....Most of our folk dances are line dances, so you don't need a partner. Wear comfortable clothing and flat, soft-soled shoes or sneakers."
