Woman on the Edge of Time - Marge Piercy [Pub meeting]

Details

N.B. this meeting will be held in person in the Prince of Wales pub near Covent Garden. There is also an online session held on Thursday if you are not in London or are not able to attend in person for any other reason.

Continuing our utopia/dystopia theme, it’s time to discuss both within one novel. Woman on the Edge of Time explores social structures, gender, sexuality and human autonomy with Connie, a Mexican-American woman in the 1970s. Incarcerated in an asylum but able to travel in time, Connie explores two possible futures and the role she might have in creating them.

The meeting starts at 7pm with drink breaks at 8 and 9. The discussion will end around 10pm but leave whenever you need to.

Here's the blurb from GoodReads:

After being unjustly committed to a mental institution, Connie Ramos is contacted by an envoy from the year 2137, who shows her a utopian future of sexual and racial equality and environmental harmony.

But Connie also bears witness to another potential outcome: a dystopian society of grotesque exploitation. One will become our world. And Connie herself may strike the decisive blow...
