What we’re about
About
Hello! This is a group for people who are interested in reading and discussing psychology, philosophy, and themes around those topics.
Everyone is welcome, whether you're a seasoned psychologist, have just read your first book on philosophy, or if you're 20 or 60. Having the right attitude is the most important thing!
I'm hoping we can build a friendly sociable group who want to share and discuss ideas, read books, and maybe go for a drink afterwards.
Cost
There is a small fee (£3) for each session to cover the Meetup costs (approx £30 per month), and also to encourage members to turn up. If there is any money left over after Meetup costs then this will be spent on the group for Christmas drinks or get togethers.
Where
We will be meeting once a month at Kingston library, on the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Suggestions
If anyone has any books they recommend or think might be of interest then please feel free to send me a message or post it on the Meetup group. Don't be shy :)
Some ideas of books which we will probably cover:
- Thinking fast and slow
- An introduction to political philosophy
- The consolations of philosophy
- The examined life
- The outsider
- The man who mistook his wife for a hat

Momma and the Meaning of Life: Tales of Psychotherapy by Irvin Yalom
In six enthralling stories drawn from his own clinical experience, Irvin D. Yalom once again proves himself an intrepid explorer of the human psyche as he guides his patients - and himself - toward transformation.
With eloquent detail and sharp-eyed observation, Yalom introduces us to a memorable cast of characters.
Where to meet
We will be meeting at Kingston Library, Fairfield Rd, KT1 2PShttps://goo.gl/maps/stuniZBoAbEcccyy5
Please arrive at 18:25 for a 18:30 start sharp, so we can squeeze the most discussion out of the session :)
We will wrap up around 19:50 as the library needs us out by 20:00.
There will then be an option to go for a drink at a nearby pub if anyone is interested.
As always please feel free to contact me with any questions etc, or post on the Meetup group discussion.
