What we’re about
A huge welcome to the person who just decided to pick up a new hobby, the long time solo bird observer who is looking for community, the weekend hiker who wants to expand their understanding of local wildlife, the person who has not always felt accepted in the outdoor world, and to everyone passionate about environmental and social justice. We are glad you are here and we can’t wait to meet you!
Phoenix Inclusive Birding Club…
- is a community centered around the passion for the natural world, an admiration of local flora and fauna, and the desire to make the hobby of birding accessible to all.
- is open to all ages.
- a safe group for the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC, and women.
- strives to create birding events that meet the needs of anyone with a disability or accessibility challenge.
- encourages people of all interest and experience levels.
The goal of this group is modeled after the NYC Feminist Bird Club (https://www.feministbirdclub.org/principles) mission to “Make birding and the outdoors inclusive and affirming to people who may not have safe access to it, and leverage people’s passion for the environment and social justice to help create lasting social change. More simply put: There is no reason why we can’t celebrate birds and support our most cherished beliefs in equity and justice at the same time. For us, it’s not either/or. ”
This group is new and is currently planning the first event in September. Please reach out with any questions, suggestions, or if you would like to help organize.
