Note the change of starting place from the Boyce Trailhead to the Mayview Rd Trail head which allows for more parking..Go in the main entrance off Mayview Rd, and bear LEFT. At stop sign,turn LEFT.The pavilion will be on your left. Do not go to the REC center, which is to the right.. Hikers always seem to go to the wrong trail head on Boyce Road. If you are not at the pavilion, you are at the wrong trail head.

LEADING THIS HIKE!!!

This hike is scheduled for "Black Friday" . While some enjoy shopping with the maddening crowd, I prefer to be hiking in the woods burning off some calories and enjoying nature. Plan to meet in the pavilion around 8:45 where I will be serving my world famous biscotti's and tea. Hike leaves promptly at 9:00 a.m. BYOC (coffee )

We will hike for approximately 2 1/2 hours, approximately six miles .

Boyce Mayview Park, just a few miles below South Hills Village, is a newly developed urban park that has about 8 miles of natural marked trails and a few more slightly off beaten. There is a wide variety of terrain from woodlands to meadows to forests with a number of elevation changes and even a waterfall. . A wet lands was created for migrating birds to support a habitat for many species of wild birds and beavers. Many times you will see King fishers, and Great Blue Heron's along the Creek, deer and sometimes a beaver. So far they have sighted over 171 different bird species in the park.

I would not consider this a beginner's hike because of the elevation changes and moderate to brisk pace and there are some steep hills planned for this hike . It will be a very fun hike but will also be a good workout. I do wait at the top of all hills and at intersections so no one is left behind.

We will meet at the Pavilion near the Mayview Rd Trailhead, 1551 Mayview Rd, Upper St Clair , PA b/w 8:45 a.m and plan to be off promptly at 9:00 am hiking .

If you are a fair weather hiker, please do not rsvp, since it will likely be cold, and maybe even snow . The hike will go on, rain or shine or snow.

You can also reach the park from I-79 at Bridgeville exit, turn towards Bridgeville, and right again on Washington Pike at the light. go about a mile and Boyce road will be on your left. Another mile or so on Boyce and and turn left onto Mayview Rd.

What to bring: Dress for the weather and for trail hiking. There may be some muddy and wet portions of the trail so wear appropriate footwear ( slipper tennis shoes or fashion boots are not appropriate footwear. ) and a walking stick is useful. Bring water . There are bathroom facilities at the beginning and end of the hike.

If you are unable to make the hike please change your RSVP so if there is a waiting list, others can come.

Well behaved dogs are permitted on a leash

Dress for the weather, and since there may be mud or snow, boots would be suggested and hiking poles if you have them.

Do not sign up with a guest if you are going to be on the waiting list. It will not allow you to advance to the rsvp . I would suggest having your guest join meetup and sign up as individuals.
