What we’re about
“Not all girls are made of sugar and spice, and everything nice. Some girls are made of adventure, fine beer, brains and no fear.“ --Or maybe somewhere in between!
This group is for men and women who enjoy having others to join them for outdoor activities.
We are looking for like-minded individuals to come together for hikes and other outdoor activities to promote fitness and well-being. We walk at a very brisk pace. If that is not your current pace, feel free to come out to weeknight hikes (weekends are too rigorous for the novice hikers), but please realize that people will probably walk faster than you at the beginning and you can eventually adapt to meet the pace of the group. Please note that you are ultimately responsible for yourself, your safety and your ability to complete a hike or event. If you begin the activity, you must be able to complete it or successfully see yourself back to your vehicle. The organizer and other members cannot take responsibility for you. We believe in encouraging others to reach new potential and health benefits, but to also be mindful of their own abilities and to be patient to slowly adapt their abilities. While I would like to hike locally, often, I am hoping to keep it interesting and to add other locations...like Starved Rock, Matthiessen State Park, etc.
It is MANDATORY to post a picture of yourself, simply for the purpose of members being able to recognize you when you are joining us on events. It is a courtesy so that we all feel safe and welcomed! I hope you enjoy your time with us!
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Hike Settler's ParkSettlers' Park, Plainfield, IL
Let's meet at Settler's Park. We will start out at 5:35, promptly...if you are running late, you can catch us on the loop back. Intending to walk about an hour - 4 miles, but others might walk shorter or longer distances. IF YOU START LATE, WALK TO THE RIGHT AND YOU WILL RUN INTO THE GROUP.
This is a lit path that circles a pond, goes into the woods and has some very pretty features. We will have to make it a few times around to get in the miles we want, but I think you will enjoy this location! Meet behind the Plainfield Village Hall Parking lot at the stone walk ledge near the bathrooms. You can park at the village lot.
Please bring:
Water
Good hiking Shoes
Dress in layers and according to weather forecast
A good attitude

Come join us for an 8 mile hike! Joe F. will be leading this one!
The 1,541-acre Hickory Creek Preserve was acquired between 1942 and 2010.
The preserve is part of the Hickory Creek preservation system, which conserves more than 2,000 acres.
The preserve is the District's largest individual preserve, and the majority of the land was acquired for a regional stormwater reservoir which was never constructed.
Hickory Creek Preserve has three access areas: Hickory Creek Barrens in New Lenox; Hickory Creek Junction in Mokena; and LaPorte Road Access in Mokena.Hickory Creek Barrens features the New Lenox Historical Society's historic one-room Schmuhl School. A 575-acre portion of the site was dedicated as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 1998. This dedication provides permanent protection for the preserve's natural resources.
