Another get out of town adventure but this one isn't too far! Willow River is exit 4 off of I-94 once you cross the river. After exiting, you will head north until you see the state park entrance on your left. Enter the park and drive all the way in and park at the Beach Parking Lot (near the nature center). You can get a map when you enter. Wisconsin state park entry fee is $38 annual non-resident and $11 daily non-resident. There are a couple options for folks who want to coordinate car pooling.

Willow River State Park is a 2,891-acre Wisconsin state park located five miles north of Hudson. The centerpiece of the park is Willow Falls, a powerful cascade in a 200-foot deep gorge. Another popular feature is Little Falls Lake, a shallow reservoir on the Willow River. There is an easy level trail that runs parallel to the lake, through the campground and to the falls. Once we gather at the falls (you will definitely want pictures), we can head across the river and climb the steps up to the overlooks or we can walk a trail up to the overlooks. I like to climb the stairs and then come back down on the trail.

After our hike, we will meet again at Big Guy's Barbeque in North Hudson, 1237 WI-35, Hudson, WI 54016 for a late lunch/early dinner. It's about 6-7 miles from the park. If you haven't been, you're in for a treat.

Hiking will be on uneven surfaces including rocks and roots. Hiking boots (or sturdy shoes) and poles recommended.

This park never disappoints.
