First Event. Gerrymandering, a discussion on how to draw fair districts

Details

This is our first event. I'm thinking about having events on the second Tuesday of every month. Tuesday #2 is what I'm calling it, because branding is everything.

Let's talk gerrymandering. Many citizens feel disenfranchised by the ruling party drawing political maps to stay in power. This can be frustrated for blue voters in red states and red voters in blue states, both parties are "guilty" of it, IMO. Let's discuss ways to fairly draw maps. Feel free to come with your impartial, logical algorithms that you define as fair. While gerrymandering can affect all states and municipalities in federal, state, and local governments, an excellent case study will be the four congressional seats of the state of Kansas. Kansas is more or less a rectangle. How do you fairly break up a rectangle into 4 parts. As a reminder the 4 parts should have 4 equal populations.

Come with ideas or have no clue how to do it and critique the pros and cons of others. I know I have my opinions on how to do it, but that doesn't mean I'm right. Please tell me how wrong I am.

The venue has coffee, tea, food, and alcohol.
