Meet: Champoeg Visitor Center at 10:20 AM
Distance:2-3 miles
Elevation Gain: Flat

Take an easy stroll through the Champoeg Archaeological District to see and touch original artifacts from the Champoeg townsite. Hear the stories of the people who lived at Champoeg.

As is with most hikes this time of year, this is **weather dependent.** If it looks like a downpour or SNOW on this day I will cancel the hike and notify everyone by way of Meetup email (be sure you have your email on for this group so you get the notifications). Also check the event site in the morning before heading out to be sure!

Day-use parking fees are waived for January 1st.

America's State Parks announced that all 50 state park systems will sponsor guided First Day Hike Programs on New Year’s Day 2019. America’s State Parks First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1, 2024 at a state park.

First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.

**General Carpool guidelines:** Carpool moneys are collected to not only cover the fuel to get the participants to the destination, but also cover wear and tear on the vehicle, insurance, tires, brakes and any number of vehicle related costs that the owner/driver has to pay to maintain the vehicle that you are riding in. Carpool rates are tied to the cost of fuel at the time of the event. $3.00 to $4.00 - $.15/mile, $4.01 to $5.00 = $.20/per mile. We will be traveling about 70 miles RT for a fee of $10.50/ $14.00. Please have exact change for your driver. Additionally if you have car related issues perhaps you should be a driver as no one is guaranteed a front seat in another vehicle, the front seat is reserved for someone to help navigate.

**Carpool location:** 6034 SE 101st Avenue Portland. 8 blocks from the max, 1 block from the bus line and plenty of on street neighborhood parking. Come prepared to be a carpool driver if you can, my car may or may not be able to hold everyone.

I know last-minute things do come up, but try to change your “NO” RSVP sooner rather than later so that others can benefit. If you have to last minute change, just be sure to contact the trip leader and clearly explain the situation. We're human, too, and are happy to extend our understanding for these types of occurrences. For this event, 24 hour notice to cancel your RSVP from Yes to No, is expected, otherwise it will be counted as a no-show. Thank you for your courtesy!
