Kanbar Auditorium, Studzinski Recital Hall
The Bowdoin Middle Eastern Ensemble, under the direction of Duncan Hardy, is proud to present eight selections of classical Middle Eastern Music. These compositions are representative of the traditions of Medieval Andalusia, Ottoman court music and Egyptian popular music from the "Golden Age" of Arabic music. Within these contexts the Bowdoin Middle Eastern Ensemble will be exploring classical instrumental pieces, Muwashahat vocal songs and the improvisational practice known as "Taqsim". The program has been organized in several sections according to the mode or "Maqam" they are composed in order to facilitate a melodic continuity and a deeper listening experience for the audience as is the general practice when performing Middle Eastern music.
All events are free and open to the public; no tickets or reservations.
