Winter Wonders at Richfield Heritage Preserve

This date and time could change if there is unfavorable weather. Please check back for updates.

Project: Refurbish the existing foot bridge along the canal. We will create a new 48" wide foot bridge that will also allow access for a DR Mower to access points north.

Labor needed: Help carry tools and materials back to the jobsite. Dismantle the existing bridge. Carry out waste materials. Dig and set new foundation blocks. Reset existing wooden poles. Install new planking.

What to bring: gloves, safety glasses, sturdy boots, water, snack.

Parking: Ideally, most can park just off the road in the large grass area and walk the trail back to where the materials and tools trucks will be at the back of the field. Thats about half a mile off the road. From that point it's about one-third of a mile back to the bridge site. For those concerned about the walk, drive on the grass path between the tree line and the field. See attached photo for clarity.

Meet at the Linda J Cox Trailside Parking Lot in Loveland, where we will gather and shuttle to Miami Riverview Park. Then we will enjoy a casual hike, just over 1 mile, back into Loveland on the paved trail, in time for Loveland's holiday festival! We will also provide an overview of the Buckeye Trail. This hike will be fully accessible and a great beginner hike for all ages.

Join us at the BTA's Ballinger Preserve for a day of demolition! The old backpacking shelter on the site has been slowly falling apart and is need of being replaced. Before we can begin constructing a new shelter, we need to remove the existing one, so we'll be scheduling a few dates this winter to do just that. Bring any tools you have, work gloves, and sturdy boots. We'll be working outside in winter weather so dress in layers, and bring a thermos of your favorite soup to keep you warm!

Join us for a 4.1mi hike through Middle Island of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge in St. Marys, WV. And should the trail conditions be right and you have some stamina in you, this location is 8 miles south of the Whipple Section, Point 5/ Bear Run Rd/ C25.
