Writer's Workshop (Get Feedback On Your Work!)
Details
Whether you're a budding novelist or a short story writer, this is your opportunity to share your work, gain valuable feedback, and hone your craft.
You can submit your work and engage in thoughtful discussions to help improve and refine your writing.
Let's inspire and support each other in our creative journeys!
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Here’s what you can expect at this meeting:
- Quick and fun introductions
- Opening up the room for friendly and helpful critiques for each piece
- Wrap up and reminders
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
There are two ways to participate:
You can submit your work and have it critiqued by your fellow writers.
Or you can simply let your editor come out and leave feedback on the work of other writers, helping them improve their writing.
If you want to have your piece critiqued, you MUST sign up beforehand.
Please remember that this is a first-come, first-serve event so sign-up early! While it is a first-come, first-serve event, we do make sure that everyone gets a chance to present. You don't have to worry about the same people going month after month.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS:
The deadline for submission is the week before the Writer's Workshop.
You can sign up by letting us know via email ([email protected]) or the Signal group chat (link for that: https://signal.group/#CjQKIJjJ5kZKtuKZNcBWxwmGSnvPvATwbxi_a1n5ZNb24A5mEhBM1aUqkCb7Y2qL00ckst9t)
Once you're on the list, please submit up to five pages (six pages is okay if your piece has a lot of white space / dialogue).
It MUST be formatted like this:
- Double line spaced
- Times New Roman
- Size 12 Font
- Indent the first lines at 0.5
Once we have all of the submissions, we will send out an email with a Google Drive folder. Inside, you'll have access to all of the pieces.
HOW TO LEAVE FEEDBACK:
You have two options for providing feedback:
Directly on the Google Doc: Use the "Comment" function to add your thoughts directly on the document. This makes it easy for everyone to see your feedback, especially if you’re focusing on specific sections.
Printed Feedback: If you prefer, you can print out the piece and write your comments directly on the pages. Bring this to the Writer's Workshop and hand it over to the author after their feedback session so they'll be able to use your feedback to make revisions.
PARKING
There are several nearby options for parking:
1. Street parking: There is plenty of free and paid parking on 1st Ave South, 3rd St South, and 2nd Ave South.
2. 717 Parking - McNulty Garage
3. Sundial Parking Garage
QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send myself (David) or Rachel a message. Hope to see you at the next meeting.
Every 3rd Wednesday of the month until February 18, 2025
