About:
If you don't know what a Death Cafe is, at a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.
Our objective is "to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives."
A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes.
It is a discussion group rather than grief counseling or funeral planning, although these topics are fair game.
Other topics might include your thoughts, feelings and experiences relating to: life after death, past lives, near death experiences, reincarnation, ghostly apparitions, loss, memorial rites/customs, methods of dealing with mortal remains, etc, etc…
Death Cafes are always offered:
• On a not for profit basis
• In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
• With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action
• Alongside refreshing coffee, tea – and cake!
The movement has contributed to breaking down the cultural silence surrounding death and dying and has played a role in encouraging individuals and communities to engage in conversations that can lead to a better understanding of the end-of-life experience and the importance of living fully in the present.
