Join us for our annual post-holiday potluck at the beautiful Big Horn Lodge perched on the rim of the Royal Gorge - one of our yearly highlights!

Since Christmas and New Year's are so close together, we usually have a POST-HOLIDAY party in January. And once again we'll be holding it at one of the most BEAUTIFUL places to hold a party in Colorado in January... the ROYAL GORGE! Massive picture windows line the entire south side of the building, and there is plenty of room for folks to spread out around the tables and in front of the huge river-rock fireplace to eat, talk and enjoy each other’s company.

There is a full kitchen, including refrigerator and oven, as well as cooking utensils etc. There will be 2-3 long inside tables by the picture windows... seating for about 14-16 people at one time. Outside balconies allow you to view the Bridge and Gorge and you might even be able to sit outside if weather and temps permit. The lodge has baseboard heating as well as a gas fireplace to ensure a warm and cozy evening! Please come! We would love to see you!

Dogs: Please leave your dogs at home! Although the Lodge allows ONLY 2-3 dogs, we are responsible for hair and mess cleanup, and they charge an extra cleaning fee as well.

Time: The party will officially start around 3:30 PM on Thursday, January 23 and you will have to exit the gate by 9:30 PM if you are here for the party only. The early start allows you to view the spectacular sunset from the Lodge.

To make this event possible, we will rent the lodge for 2 nights. We are looking for 6-8 hikers who like to spend 2 nights at the lodge. Over night guests will arrive on Wed Jan 22 and leave on Friday Jan 24. The potluck is on Thursday.
The lodge has 3 double rooms sleeping 6 and a special option for 2 to sleep in front of the cozy fireplace.
If we have 6 sleepers the cost per person for 2 nights is $172.
If we have 8 sleepers the cost per person for 2 nights is $129.

The lodge is filling up fast in January.
We have not booked the lodge yet.
We are waiting to see if we have enough interest to spend another fabulous time at the only lodge overlooking the Royal Gorge.

What to bring: Please bring a dish and/or snack to share.
Please bring your own beer/wine.

Additional Info:

For all who RSVP, we will send out further info regarding gate security etc, because the park will officially close at dusk. We will receive special instructions from the park about entry and exit.

In case of snow, the Highway 50 should be plowed, and 3A to the Royal Gorge Park will also be plowed and sanded. So entry and exit, and travel home should be doable, regardless of weather. We still would suggest a 4WD or all terrain tires, just in case.

There is parking for about 15 cars in their lot above the Lodge. However, we can also park in the main lot (paved), with a SHORT walk up to the Lodge. Wear shoes that can handle foot stabilizers (yak traks) if you park in the paved lot.
