What we’re about
Each time we meet at Dolores Park (or at a close café or restaurant if the weather does not allow it) and meditate together using a common method from Pure Land Buddhism, with the purpose of shining rays of light and goodness onto ourselves, the park, and beyond. If you feel like it'd be great to have an easy and powerful way to counteract the troubles of this crazy world in your arsenal, come hang out.
After that, you can ask questions (you will have plenty), hang out, and have a picnic if the weather allows. This meetup is intended to have a social component at the end. I find most other events tend to not have an easy outlet to make people interact after the main part, and I very much want to avoid that. Feel free to bring something to share with others, even if it's a song you like. Except for chips, because someone already thought of that.
Disclaimer 1: This is very far from the usual breath awareness stuff, and most would say it's very far out. There are religious connotations to this method which are very hard to ignore and which I will try to explain as best as I can. However, the method is presented in a way that does not require any belief, merely being open to the possibility that it works. No previous knowledge of Buddhism required, and you can use it even if you are not Buddhist and want to merely see it as a mental trick to spread well-being to you and those around you.
Disclaimer 2: I am not a Buddhist teacher of any kind, so I can only answer questions to the best of my ability, and I only think of me as someone introducing you to a real teacher. However, anyone is encouraged to introduce this method to those who show sincere interest. It was also chosen because, unlike other Buddhist methods, anyone can make it work without great amounts of effort.
