Friday Gaming at Alley Pond Sports Bar & Grill (Thanksgiving Weekend Edition)
Details
This is a special Friday edition (Thanksgiving weekend) that will meet at Alley Pond Sports Bar & Grill in Douglaston, Queens on Friday Nov. 29th from 2 to 10 PM.
Welcome to the Queens Board Games meetup group. This group is for those who live in Queens County along with surrounding sections of the New York metro area who are interested in board gaming.
Note: Currently, there are several sections within this group which meet at various locations, including certain establishments and members’ personal residences. Please be sure to RSVP for the correct section.
VENUE AND TIME ALLOTTED
Alley Pond Sports Bar & Grill is a bar and restaurant located at 232-05 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, Queens (on the premises of Alley Pond Golf Center). The phone number is (718) 225-9187. Our point of contact is Mike, the bartender/server.
For those who drive, there is a parking lot for both golfing and restaurant patrons. Please note that the parking situation will vary and may be tedious at certain times, especially during the warmer months. Please be patient as turnover is high enough where you should be able to find a spot.
As a last resort, parking along Northern Blvd., Alameda Ave., Douglaston Pkwy. (north of Northern Blvd.), and the commuter lot at the Douglaston LIRR train station is available. Go to either Apple or Google Maps for clarification.
For those commuting by mass transit, the Q12 and N20G bus lines stop nearby on Northern Blvd. The Long Island Railroad (LIRR) stops nearby as well (Douglaston Station).
Members arrive and leave at various times, therefore there is no obligation to stay for the entire time allotted. It is encouraged to post in the Comments section what time you plan on arriving/leaving.
PROTOCOL
This venue is a place of business willing and able to accommodate our group. Although there is no minimum amount to be spent, please provide enough patronage and refrain from bringing outside food and drink.
Please RSVP responsibly. If your status changes, please update accordingly. Providing the estimated time frame you plan on arriving within and any other updates here on the message board is appreciated as well.
WHAT TO EXPECT
If you're looking for a fun and friendly group of people to play a variety of games with, join us for a Sunday meetup at Alley Pond Sports Bar & Grill.
Newcomers are always welcome! Growing up, most of us played children's games (ex: Candyland, Sorry, Connect Four) and classic games (ex: Checkers, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly). Gaming has truly evolved since then, with an increase in volume of games/categories created along with an increase in complexity and sophistication of rules and strategies. This is a whole other world of games that you may never heard of, however there will be others who bring games and will teach you (see list below - you can also go to YouTube to preview and familiarize yourself with these games).
Bringing your own games is not mandatory, however if you possess any, feel free to bring them as there are always people looking to learn something new or to find a new favorite board game.
Also, it is recommended and encouraged to use the message board here to indicate which games are being brought and would like to be played.
