What we’re about

What is Quilling? Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork. During the Renaissance, French and Italian nuns and monks used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items. The paper most commonly used was strips of paper trimmed from the gilded edges of books. These gilded paper strips were then rolled to create the quilled shapes. Quilling often imitated the original ironwork of the day. (came from this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quilling)

Projects can range from simple gift tags and cards to pictures, jewellery, three dimensional models or the decoration of boxes for the meet ups.

All supplies are bought by me and I bring them to every class. Each person that
attends a class will be paying $15(cash or check) and getting a kit that I created with a quilling tool, quilling paper, and the instructions. I will also bringing scissors and glue. The person gets to take the kit home with them. So the person coming to the class does not need to bring anything just themselves and their friends or family with their creative imaginations.

There is an introductory shape making class the first half of any class you pick to go to. If you have never taken a class before this basic intro class I will help you. But I have also taught classes without
teaching the basic shapes and the students taking the class had no problem learning and finishing the project. This is also a very relaxing craft for young people and adults to learn.

I hope you can join us!
