Let's paint en plein air! Drawing or painting in public can be very intimidating, especially for the introverted. My goal is to form a friendly social group for people who like to paint outdoors and who might find interest and motivation in a friendly, mutually supportive group setting.

Bring your own art supplies and equipment: coffee, snacks, whatever makes you happy and stay for an hour or three. Don't forget to take out what you bring in. Raleigh has so many beautiful parks and greenways and open spaces, I can't wait to get started.

I have always wanted to paint en plein air, but I never got around to actually doing it. I thought it might be fun and motivating to be a part of a group. My experience is primarily in still life oil painting, so I am learning to paint en plein air the hard way: direct experience.

This is a location in the Dorothea Dix Park. It's near the old hospital building. There a great view of the Raleigh skyline. Its a big park with multiple entrances. Check out the links below. Also I uploaded an annotated google map view to help you find the right spot. Please feel free to message me if you get lost. It will probably be cold and windy. I will keep an eye on the weather.

What should you bring?
An office clipboard with printer paper and a #2 yellow pencil would work just fine.
Your electronic device of choice and free drawing/painting app. (You might want to sit out of direct sunlight so you can see your screen.)
Watercolors/acrylics, paper, brushes, water and a music stand.
An artboard with colored pencils or pastels.
A camera, photography is art too
A camp chair or blanket so you are not sitting directly on the cold wet ground.
Snacks and beverages.
You could bring full oil painting plein air set up. That is how you will recognize me, the lady struggling with a huge cart of stuff.
Don't forget to take out what you bring in so the groundskeepers won't hate us.
