THE DALLAS RAMP PROJECT
Building Freedom for the Homebound.
In 1985, the Kiwanis Club of Richardson began building access ramps for residents of Dallas
and its suburbs. In the years since, with expanded corporate and volunteer support, The Dallas Ramp Project has built nearly 2000 ramps,
at a current rate of more than 240 per year.

Our volunteers say it's the most satisfying work
they have ever done; liberating people imprisoned
in their homes, unable to get out because of
the front steps that most take for granted.

The Dallas Ramp Project works with the City of Dallas,
social-services organizations, and hospitals to identify clients
who need a ramp. We are 100% volunteer staffed, relying on individual donations and our corporate partners to provide the funding, building materials, and facilities for our work.

What will we be doing?
You'll do whatever amount of light construction you're comfortable with. Our primary tool is a drill, either cordless or corded. We use them to screw everything together, and when we're not using screws we're using bolts that need a hole drilled first. The work occasionally calls for a circular saw or other power tools, but if you're not comfortable or familiar with those, you won't be asked to use them.

Where should we show up?
Our usual gathering location is our warehouse at 3341 Towerwood Dr, Suite 204 in Farmers Branch. At this location, we'll divide the volunteers into working teams, assign them to a ramp, and pair them with an experienced volunteer or two who'll drive a truck or trailer with all the materials to the site. Volunteers carpool from the warehouse to the ramp site.

When should we show up?
8AM, except June-July-August when we start at 7AM to beat the heat.

How long will this take?
The goal is to be done at the ramp site by noon (11AM in the summer).

What should we bring?
It's very useful, but not required, to bring a drill, either corded (with an extension cord) or cordless. Any other woodworking tools you want to use are quite welcome, but we'll have at least one of everything needed at the build site. If you've tender hands you might want to bring gloves. We've always got bottled water, but you're welcome to bring something else to drink if you prefer. Bring a camera – you’ll want to have a picture of the results of your hard work!

What should we wear?
This is light construction work. Dress comfortably for the outdoors, and expect to get dirty and sweaty.

PRIOR TO THE EVENT:
Head over to the store and pick up the product. Remember, the more product that is brought… The more meals we will make.
Bringing a group? Please let everyone in the group know the list of items of what to bring.

WHAT TO BRING:
We request that EACH PERSON attending brings at minimum enough supplies for 25 sandwiches.

• Meat: Please try to make this turkey, chicken or ham (we do not prefer bologna); Unfortunately, we cannot accept any meat from the deli counter
• Cheese: Individually wrapped slices or pre-sliced cheese; once again we cannot accept any meat from the deli counter
• Bread: We definitely prefer wheat
• 1 bottle of yellow mustard
• 1 bag of Halos, Cuties, or tangerines
• 1-2 bags of chips (NOT the individual bags)
• 100 counts of plastic zip sandwich bags

DAY OF THE EVENT:
Please arrive between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. We will begin PROMPTLY at 9:00 am.

Remember, anyone can attend our events. We make this a fun atmosphere for all ages. Remember, you are responsible for anyone under 18y/o that is in your group.

DROP-OFF
Write a positive message on a brown paper sack. Here's what to pack in each bag:
• 1 bottle of water
• 1 granola bar
• 2 tangerines or 1 apple in a Ziplock
• 1 pouch of tuna or applesauce cup

Please drop the bags off in a box or grocery bags. we give 3 volunteer minutes for each sack donated.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: Do we need to register?
A: No you do not. Simply show up on the day of the event. We love it if you RSVP on Facebook because it helps spread the message.

Q: What do we wear?
A: We would love if you wore orange (but not required), make sure your hair is pulled back, so it doesn't hang in your face or wear a ball cap, wear anything you can get bleach spots on.

Q: Do you sign volunteer forms?
A: Yes. We give 3 hours for each Feed The City event.

Q: How many people can I bring?
A: As many as you want.

Q: Is there an age limit?
A: Not at all. Anyone can join.

Q: Can I leave early if I have to be somewhere else?
A: Yes you can. The event lasts around 1.5 hours and we take a group pic at the end.

Q: Can we donate money instead?
A: Yes. If you are coming to the event we prefer that you bring the supplies. If you do want to donate head to https://donorbox.org/tangocharities-donation.

• Ziploc Sandwich Bags: Please make sure they zip and are not fold over bags

We recommend each person attending bring enough supplies for 25-30 sandwiches at a minimum.
