What we’re about
Are you recovering from disillusionment after a more ‘Fundamentalist’ practice of your faith? Do you practice your faith, but find yourself struggling with conflict between our modern knowledge driven society vs. an exposure to a more simplistic faith instruction? Do you find you have difficulty resolving your faith and expectations of our Creator against the condition of the world? Have you found yourself looking for answers, but had the misfortune of someone disabusing your trust? These are just some of the issues modern Christians struggle within the practice of faith in the modern world. The purpose of starting this group is to provide a group or community to explore these and other issues confronting us.
These meetings will include sharing of teachings and understanding from Scripture, sharing of life experiences and discussion, in an open, supportive, non-judgemental environment. The idea will be to share topics in advance of individual meetings and exploration of those ideas as a group, sometimes with provision of materials to review ahead of the discussion. These interactions will grow according to the interests of the members of the group. One of the guiding tenants will always be the need for individual, critical thinking and self-reflection, with the expectation that anyone is free to come and go, to listen or participate, purely at their own discretion and level of comfort.
The first posting here Is to explore if there is sufficient interest to form this as a steady group. The first hope is to have a mixed virtual and live group. An initial hangout for coffee and conversation has been identified in Milpitas, though this is subject to change. My goal would be to have virtual participation also, though my preference is for in person exchanges. Initial meetings will have no charge, though later there may be a need to share in charges for space and similar concerns. Any such concerns will be shared in advance of the meeting. I am asking if you are interested in this as a topic/group to register and I’ll proceed from there if enough people express interest. Though I have no specific plan fo an initial meeting, my hope is for in the middle of December and picking up again in January, with meetings perhaps every other week for an hour to ninety minutes. More on timing, etc. is subject to discussion with those having interest.
