The Salisbury University Transgender Interprofessional Care Team is coming to Lewes Library November 4th at 7 pm. They will be sharing the results of a recent study. After the symposium TransLiance will lead us in their 8th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance TDOR vigil for all those people who did not fit their birth assignment and were brutally murdered this year. Please join us for an engaging and meaningful event where you’ll dive deep into gender-affirming care and critically examine the effects of anti-trans legislation.
Michèle M. Schlehofer, PhD, Salisbury University and Daniel Green BASW Program Director, Assistant Professor / Social Work will be here to tell us about the work that they have been doing. Michèle and associates recently submitted in the APA’s Call for papers: American trans psychology amid anti-transgender legislation “American psychologists have complex histories with trans individuals, including pathologization of trans identities and coercive research practices, with several professional organizations recently apologizing for their historical role in gender identity change efforts. At the same time, psychologists have also contributed enormously to the growth of knowledge about the mental and behavioral health needs of this population, including the causes and consequences of health disparities among trans people; gender-affirming therapeutic approaches when engaging in consultation, assessment, and treatment of trans people; and trans people’s experiences of well-being, thriving, and joy. Psychologists have documented the vulnerabilities and strengths of trans individuals facing disparate rates of violent victimization, discrimination, and marginalization.”
We will also hear from Kathy Carpenter Brown. The Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, Delaware, Exhibit: “Shared Truths*,*” exploring the people who witness, shape and record Delaware history. The first person featured in this exhibition, Kathy Carpenter, has been advocating for transgender rights and community acceptance throughout her life. As the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs’ Curator of Collections, Elizabeth Coulter participates in developing and installing exhibitions, developing and presenting educational programs, providing access to the collections, collaborating with partnering organizations and expanding the profile and use of the collections.
