Protest Transport of Nuclear Waste Across Peace Bridge (weather permitting)

Details

"Email Charley Bowman [email protected] with your phone number for him to call and let you know whether (weather 😉 the vigil will take place that particular Friday. Or just show up and bring your own sign if you’re not sure others will be there!!

What: Protest the Shipments of Highly-Radioactive Liquid Nuclear Waste

Where: Front Park (by the tennis courts), Buffalo NY. Enter Front Park from Porter Ave. The entrance to Front Park is just before the new (and confusing) circle.

When: Every Friday, from 2 PM - 3 PM

Why: According to Canadian nuclear expert Dr. Gordon Edwards, 23,000 liters (6,100 gal.) of highly radioactive liquid waste are being transported over the Peace Bridge from Ontario to a processing plant in South Carolina. 100 to 150 truckloads are to be shipped over the next four years -- an average of 1 very 2 weeks. The first shipment was completed in April.

The environmental risks are huge. One quart of this highly radioactive liquid is enough to destroy the water supply of any North American city.

If the processing of nuclear waste had been carried out on-site in Canada, as originally planned, these shipments of radioactive liquid over public roads and bridges could have been avoided altogether.

It is still not too late to do this. There's no need to transport these materials through hundreds of communities (both Canadian and American). We should not endanger the Great Lakes and other sources of drinking water in NY, PA, OH, VA, NC, and SC.

Bring signs....
