Description of Levels and Q/A

  • THE TICKS ARE OUT! All Year! And they're everywhere! Permethrin on your clothes (never on your skin), DEET or Picaridin for your skin, and stay on the trail and out of the vegetation. Check for them on you frequently during the hike and a thorough check after the hike. Then a shower when you get home and you're good to go.

We will be hiking in the State Park behind the Ice Cream Machine, across the street from the Town of Cumberland park and ball fields.

Few people are aware that across the road from the well known former Diamond Hill ski area is a large public access property with many trails ideal for hiking. There are many interesting features including ledges, old stone foundations, marshy areas, old cemeteries...basically all you can hope for to make it a great place to spend a morning or afternoon. The terrain is typical woodland with rocky and root lined paths, there are some wider trails with loose rock. Although mountain bikers have discovered it as evidenced by some elaborate ramp constructions, there is plenty of space for all to enjoy.
