A Hike and Bonfire Get Together in Beverly Shores

this event will start at 1 PM CST (Chicago time); 2 PM EST (Michigan time). since i'm posting this from Greece, ignore any other weird time that may appear.

please bring a portable CHAIR if you possibly can, as we will likely be short of seating, and please BYOB. i still will provide some hot chocolate, hot cider, or such, but i don't want to spend the whole time serving drinks, so bring something for yourself, and also bring a car CUP or something else to drink from.

also wear layered clothing, and be prepared for a December chill as soon as the sun sets.

if Saturday is too cold, windy, rainy, or snowy to have a bonfire, i may reschedule this for Sunday. if both days are...maybe next spring.

dear friends--

i have been away since early September, visiting my children and grandchildren in Massachusetts and Greece, and am coming back later than usual, but i still hoped i could get in one outdoor get together before serious winter sets in.

we will start out with a short hike, led by Erica right out my front door through the woods on the Lost Roads of Beverly Shores, and down to the beach, then segue into the bonfire.

the sun will set at 4:18 PM on this day! i would like to gather at the firepit around 2:30, so we have enough time before dark to arrange seating, and make a roaring fire together.

be sure to check the weather just before the walk so you can be prepared with whatever gear is necessary http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Beverly+Shores+IN+46301 .

it will likely be cold, and i wish i could just invite you all in, like i did many times right up to 4 days before the Pandemic was declared, but my own Covid protocols have been stricter than most, because i'm not young, i have mild COPD, and i've had bad respiratory illnesses in the past.

please bring a mask to go inside and use the bathroom, or if needed in other situations.

if you have symptoms of, or have recently tested positive for Covid-19 (or any other contagious disease), please DO NOT ATTEND.

directions & parking instructions:

from US 12 turn north (toward the lake) onto Broadway (traffic light opposite National Lakeshore campground); continue about 1/2 mile, and turn left at Marne, go to 11 w Marne--a gray, three story house set back rather far from the road; street parking is not allowed in Beverly Shores, but you can park in the off-street spaces across the road from us, or in front of our neighbor to the east, and you can park in our neighbors' driveway to the east (but not across the street); take a parking permit from our front porch, and put it in the widow facing the street.if those spaces are full. park in our driveway. when parking in any of the driveways, park valet-style, and move forward as far as possible; if all spaces are taken, call me at 773-415-0428, or ring the doorbell.

if we exceed parking capacity at my house, we will need to PARK at the South Shore STATION and be shuttled to my house.

we will wait till 1:20 CT, then depart out the door for the hike.
